So the Golden Globe nominations are out, which means it’s awards season. Since The Future Belongs to Undead Gods is going to dominate everything next year, I figured I’d take a look at this year’s crop.
I haven’t seen most of them, in part because we’re broke and have a toddler, and in part because in their obsession with being the first ones out of the gate the Globes are always announced before most of the nominees are in wide release.
Anyway, my biggest beef is the lack of Sam Rockwell in the acting category. I didn’t expect Moon to get much recognition, despite being one of the best movies I’ve seen this year, but his performance was one of the best I’ve seen in years.
Also, I highly doubt that Nancy Mayer managed to make something worth seeing, let alone a better comedy that Up.
I am happy, if not surprised, to see Kathryn Bigelow up for director. Actually, both the director’s whose movies I’ve seen deserve it, and I consistently like the work of two of the other three.
Happy with the three screenplay nominees I’ve seen too, although the exclusion of The Brothers Bloom, and Moon is a little annoying (not at all surprising, just annoying).
Beyond that I don’t have much to say. Haven’t seen enough of the nominees to have as educated of an opinion as I would like, so for now there’s less ranting than there might otherwise be. Come Groundhog Day though... |
